Experience the tradition of the Planet Unity Festival, a celebration of community, music, and sustainable living in honor of Earth Day! Since 2018, this annual event has brought the Springfield community together to celebrate our planet and the progress we've made towards a more sustainable future.
This year's festival, held on Friday, April 21 from 6-9 PM and Saturday, April 22 from 10-5 PM at 2214 E Seminole St, Springfield, MO 65804, will feature live music and entertainment, inspiring talks on environmentalism, sustainability, and more, delicious food and drinks (including vegan options and alcoholic beverages), and a marketplace featuring local artisans and crafters.
One of the musical highlights of the festival will be Uke 66, a dynamic and talented ukulele band led by Rick and Karen Maxson. Rick and Karen founded Uke 66 in 2014 to share the joy of ukulele music with the world, and they have since performed at festivals throughout the Midwest, California, Hawaii, Japan, Australia, Malaysia, and Mexico.
Uke 66's eclectic repertoire ranges from jazz and pop to Island styles, country, and original tunes and covers, showcasing the versatility and carefree spirit of the `ukulele. They have won numerous awards and accolades, including first place in the solo and group divisions and "Best Original Song" at the International Ukulele Contest in Honolulu in 2019 and 2020.
Join us on Saturday, April 22 at 11:30 AM for Uke 66's lively and engaging performance at the Planet Unity Festival! In addition to their captivating music, you can learn more about the band members' backgrounds and accomplishments, such as Rick's commendation by his State Congressional Representative for his efforts to promote ukulele culture to an international audience, Karen's completion of the prestigious James Hill Ukulele Initiative in 2021, and Scott Pope's impressive musical career and skill on the ukulele bass.
